The Kung - Fu Black Belt Journey

The Beginning And Not The End!!!

A Black Belt should now realize that the fight is on the inside. The only way to progress from this point is through helping others to the Black Belt. If you have no desire to help others and you are--or are soon to be a Black Belt, this is where you graduate.  No one  can teach anyone who has learned all they need to know.

Where do you go in your training once you receive a Black Belt? Today, the word "black belt" has lost its value. Why? Here are just a few reasons:, 10 years ago it may have taken 4 to 6 years to earn a Black Belt. Today it takes 2 years or less in some schools. There was a time when martial artists were physically fit, but today you may go to a tournament to find that the judges/instructors are 300 pounds!  These same instructors have 300 students and offer fitness and self-defense classes--but never train in the classes. Worst yet, none of his students has ever seen him train. Because there is the appearance of learning and fun, people sign 3 year contracts in some cases. This is like going to a fitness gym where the instructor promises to get you in shape, but his waistline is 40 inches--5 inches bigger than yours! Listening to such a person would be difficult--someone who can help you, but can not help him/herself.

The key word is "Standards."  Instructors must have personal standards about their physical condition before deciding to teach others how to be fit. We work hard physically to get the black belt, but forget how to maintain the physical appearance. In the dark parts of our brain, we think of ourselves as we were 15 years ago.  For some, those memories is all they need.

The black belt journey requires one major change--and that is the way we think. Because we have reached the honorable position of black belt, we have to be role models. What good is it to be a black belt when we have no control over how we behave or how we treat others? Black Belt is the level where you should decide to be a good person in ever way possible. What good is it to have  Black Belt (BB) discipline when we can not apply it to the harmful foods we eat, our temper, school grades, work,  or how we treat our family and others? BB does not mean you have to be a perfect person, but it does mean being true to oneself by identifying the areas  in your life that need improvement and developing a plan to correct these weaknesses.
